A geneticist and social scientist debate if we should edit the genomes of human embryos
Felicity Boardman: The birth of a child with genetic disease is generally an unexpected event. The parents of these children typically won’t have a family history with the condition, or even be aware that they are genetic “carriersâ€: that they can transmit a genetic condition to their offspring, but do not have it themselves. Indeed, there are currently only two carrier screening programs active in the UK that are implemented during pregnancy (one for for thalassaemia, and the other for sickle cell trait). So for most parents, discovering the condition in their family occurs through their child’s diagnosis, either through the…

Google’s new Voice Access app lets you use Android hands-free
Google has a new free Android app that lets you get around your phone, tap buttons, and type across the interface and all your apps using just your voice. It’s called Voice Access, and it works similar to how you use voice commands with Google Assistant. The company says it was designed to help people with debilitating diseases like Parkinson’s and multiple sclerosis, but it should come in handy for folks who are multitasking or simply have their hands full. Once you’ve got it set up, you can launch apps, scroll up and down, and tap on things without lifting…

Instagram seems to be down for a lot of users worldwide. Its website and app both are inaccessible at the momentum.
