PokerStars Deals Winning Hand to Social VR

Back in 2014, Mark Zuckerberg made a $3 billion dollar bet through the acquisition of Oculus Rift that virtual reality (VR) would soon become one of the most social platforms that ever existed.  Fast forward to 2018 and very few VR companies have been successful (including Facebook) at building social communities that can bring users together into virtual worlds with real meaning and purpose. AltspaceVR and Rec Room are two noteable social VR experiences that have received some acclaim but are still lacking a core ingredient to drive up behavior and keep people engaged. That ingredient is passion. I…

Cryptocurrency exchanges are hitting back at New York Attorney General’s scathing criticism, suggesting the industry lacks fairness, integrity, and security. Earlier this week, the office of the NY Attorney General office published a report which highlighted a number of risks cryptocurrency exchanges expose their users to, including the possibility of market manipulation. Yesterday, Coinbase’s Chief Policy Officer, Mike Lempres, published a blog post to clarify some of the report’s findings. The Attorney General’s report states that “Coinbase disclosed that almost 20 percent of executed volume on its platform was attributable to its own trading.†Lempres denies the Attorney General’s trading…

Circle wants more women to invest in cryptocurrency
The earliest adopters of Bitcoin — the libertarian anarchist “cypherpunk” crowd — were mostly men. Today, roughly a decade after Satoshi Nakamoto’s famed white paper was released, the majority of cryptocurrency holders are still men. This poses a problem for the companies betting on the mainstream adoption of cryptocurrency. At this point, they’ve already tapped into […]

Equifax slapped with UK’s maximum penalty over 2017 data breach
Credit rating giant Equifax has been issued with the maximum possible penalty by the UK’s data protection agency for last year’s massive data breach. Albeit, the fine is only £500,000 because the loss of customer data occurred when the UK’s prior privacy regime was in force — rather than the tough new data protection law, […]
