Google explains the magic behind the Pixel 3’s Super Res Zoom

Google Pixel 3’s camera has a lot of impressive tricks up its sleeve. One of them is Super Res Zoom, which improves digital zoom for clear pictures, and allows for decent results when working with a single-lens setup like the one on the Pixel 3. The company’s AI team explained in a blog post today that the camera zooms in before taking a picture, rather than shooting a picture first and then cropping it. That helps it improve the image quality later with special algorithms: The Super Res Zoom technology in Pixel 3 is different and better than any previous…

The Fascinating Story Behind the Explosive Success of Candy Crush — MashTalk

What does "time well spent" mean for games like Candy Crush? If you own a smartphone, chances are you know Candy Crush and maybe even the game’s latest incarnation, Candy Crush Friends Saga. What you may not know is the story behind the franchise: How an Italian entrepreneur put all his cash on the line as a co-founder of King, the company behind the game, in the early 2000s, with an idea of how to re-invent gaming for the online world. That person is Riccardo Zacconi. He’s guided the company through the many phases of online gaming (desktop, Facebook, mobile, and more), taking King public and eventually selling it to gaming giant Activision Blizzard in 2015. In this episode of MashTalk, Zacconi talks about that journey, his thoughts on Mark Zuckerberg, and what the future holds for mobile gaming now that people are starting to question all the time they’re spending on their devices playing games like, well, Candy Crush. Dev sends Bitcoin without using the web or the power grid

One day we might all be able to send Bitcoin from literally anywhere in the world, with no electricity and no internet connection. Off-grid cryptocurrency transactions seem to be becoming an achievable possibility as yet another developer has managed to send Bitcoin without a data connection, using low-cost consumer grade hardware. An ingenious developer from New Zealand managed to send the transaction over 12 km away using four goTennas and a $30 Android smartphone. Over the weekend I sent a bitcoin transaction to a relay 12.6km away with no cell network or internet connection. Here's a tweetstorm about how I…

Palm’s new companion phone is the comeback we didn’t ask for

It’s been years since the Palm brand graced a new electronic device.
