Hackers create 1B fake EOS to rob ‘decentralized’ cryptocurrency exchange
Thanks to a shocking security vulnerability, hackers have flooded a “decentralized†token exchange platform with 1 billion fake EOS. By the end of the heist, the thieves were able to steal almost $58,000 in cryptocurrency directly from users. The hackers created a new EOS-based token, ironically named “EOS,†and used it to illegitimately purchase BLACK, IQ, and ADD tokens from exchange service Newdex. The company has since confirmed the hack. “EOS account oo1122334455 issued 1,000,000,000 fake EOS tokens,†Newdex wrote in a statement. “After testing the feasibility of the attack, the account began to place large [buy orders]. A total of 11,800 fake EOS orders were issued to…

Designers need to keep old people in mind
Our population is aging into “demographic time bombs.†The latest headlines constantly warn us of the stark reality of our aging dilemma. Fertility rates have dropped, and life expectancy has increased. Italy’s average age has surpassed 45 for the first time ever. A 2015 national consensus shows that Japan is currently the world’s oldest country, with almost 27% of its population over the age of 65. According to UN estimations from World Population Prospects: the 2017 Revision, the number of persons aged 60 years or over is expected to more than double by 2015, encompassing over a fifth of the world population. Yet most tech designs—websites, services and…

Sim-swappers hack League of Legends star out of $200K worth of cryptocurrency
It’s not as easy as it sounds being a professional gamer. A League of Legends superstar has had $200,000 in cryptocurrency stolen from them – directly from their Coinbase account. In a YouTube video spotted by Dot Esports, Yiliang “Doublelift†Peng describes how he awoke one morning last week to messages from his bank telling him he is overdrawn on his account. While the exact details of the hack have not been officially confirmed, Peng does have his suspicions. What happened? Peng states that around a couple of weeks before the theft, he had experienced some abnormal cellphone coverage which…

iPhone XS and XS Max review
Apple's new iPhone XS and XS Max are familiar territory with two key updates: a faster processor and an upgraded camera. Oh, and the XS Max has the largest screen ever found on an iPhone. But is that enough to justify the very high cost of the best iPhones you can buy? Correction: Nilay misspoke! The iPhone XS Max has a 6.5-inch display, not 6.8. The XS has a 5.8, and the XR has a 6.1. Amazon is reportedly baking Alexa into a microwave this year
Amazon is reportedly working on eight new Alexa-enabled devices – including a microwave – that it hopes to launch by the end of this year, reports CNBC. That could see the ecommerce giant get its gadgets and voice assistant into more rooms around your home, and perhaps get you to buy more stuff from its site. The upcoming product roster includes home entertainment gear like an amplifier, a receiver, and a subwoofer. That could give Amazon a chance to rival high-end voice-activated audio offerings like Google’s $400 Home Max, Apple’s $350 HomePod, and Samsung’s Galaxy Home. Oh, and Bose recently…
